However, there are also occasions when our existing coping skills are not enough to alleviate emotional, mental or physical distress. Merz Consulting, Inc. professionals can assist clients in learning new coping skills, changing behaviors and improving quality of life.
Services are provided by Mental Health Professionals who are either licensed or working toward licensure under professional supervision. Merz Consulting, Inc. staff adheres to the ethical codes of our professions (ACA, AMHCA, APA, NASW, NAMFT & others).

Individual
Regardless of background or present circumstances, life can sometimes become quite difficult. Whether your situation is recent or longstanding, it often takes conscious action and experienced guidance to resolve problems. Individual counseling provides a one-on-one setting to address a number of issues.
Couples
Many couples seek help when one or both partners feel misunderstood, frustrated and/or deeply disappointed. Most likely, symptoms of a breakdown in communication have been present for some time. Each person may have the sense that s/he is no longer part of an understanding relationship and feels alone. We help individuals move from polarized positions, listen to each other and work together as a team. Counseling can help couples resolve present issues and develop skills to use in the future.
Family
All families have conflict. It is the nature of people living in close proximity of each other. However, when normal conflicts begin hurting family members, it is important to take action before the home becomes permeated with negative thoughts and feelings. Blended families in which one or both parents bring children from previous relationships also present their own unique dynamics. While we work with the individual to help change certain behaviors, we also work with the entire family to reduce conflict. Change becomes reality as improved communication,mutual support and positive coping patterns are cultivated.
Group
Group counseling is available upon request and need. Ongoing groups include but are not limited to: Family Violence Intervention Program (FVIP) and Substance Abuse Treatment (Education) Level .05 and Level 1. Group settings provide the advantage of having others with similar issues to support as well as challenge thoughts and behaviors.
In-Home
In-Home counseling is conducted in a setting that is familiar to you. We can address individual, couple or family needs.
Online Counseling
Online counseling utilizes chat and/or email formats. Therapy is conducted in real time via our private messaging program. Chat sessions are generally one hour in duration but can be longer or shorter depending on individual needs. Online counseling provides an alternative way to connect with a counselor and in some cases may be used in conjunction with face to face counseling.
